FLOWER GIRL

FLOWER GIRL

TREVOR DIACONO

Medium: Mixed media

Size: 111x25x25cm

Year: 2023

Artwork Description: A sculpture that captures the essence of feminine beauty and grace in an innovative and captivating way. The piece features a strikingly elongated neck, lending an otherworldly air to the sculpture and a vibrant red swimsuit that hugs the contours of the female form. A mesmerising moonstone crystal is found in the flower’s centre. The use of moonstone crystal serves to symbolise the transcendental beauty of nature and its intrinsic connection to the female form. The absence of arms and the cut off at the feet create a sense of antiquity and motion, as if the figure is emerging from the depths of the earth, as a natural phenomenon rather than a sculpted object. ‘flower girl’ attempts to embody the union of human and nature, the sacred and the profane, and the feminine power and beauty that lies at the core of our collective consciousness, evoking an array of emotions and contemplation.

About

TREVOR DIACONO

Trevor Diacono, born in 1982, is a contemporary mixed media sculptor based in Brussels. He comes from a family of artists, most notably his grandfather Victor Diacono, who was a renowned sculptor. This familial influence and his love for the medium inspired Trevor to explore the world of sculpting from an early age. Trevor’s creative process is a reflection of his diverse background, combining a variety of materials and techniques to create thought-provoking works that challenge the viewer’s perceptions of space, form, and texture. His works often feature a dynamic interplay between organic and industrial elements, blurring the lines between the natural and man-made worlds. Trevor’s work has been exhibited in various group shows and exhibitions, both locally and internationally. He regularly returns to Malta to showcase his latest works and engage with the local art scene. Through his art, Trevor aims to inspire and provoke thought in his viewers, inviting them to question their relationship with the world around them. With a keen eye for reflection and a passion for experimentation, he continues to push the boundaries of sculpture, earning him a reputation as an exciting artist to watch.
