About

NOEL ATTARD

Born on April 15, 1966, Noel Attard (aka Nattardo), was first introduced to the art scene by his father, himself a practicing artist. Noel sought to complement his practical side with theoretical academic studies. He graduated in History of Art in 2006 and consequently attained a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in 2016, both from the University of Malta. Throughout his artistic journey, Noel navigated through various phases in his art. Noel has also ventured into the art of sculpture achieving distinguishable results in monumental public art and installation art. His most important metal sculpture to date: ‘It-Taraġ’, which was temporarily exhibited at the Valletta City Gate a few years ago, is now located next to Bighi in Kalkara, Malta. The artist also executed a dual sculptural installation, entitled, ‘Tree of Knowledge’ and ‘Tree of Life’, for the new project at the Millennium Chapel, Paceville, 2018, a project by Prof. Richard England. The artist is very much inspired by what he reads - philosophy, psychology, theology, politics, and science, all of which feature in his artworks. Music and everyday life experiences were and still are of great inspiration, the latter being an important factor in the exhibition being proposed. In fact, one has to delve deep into his artworks to grasp what he is telling us. Reading the title is sometimes not enough and this is what the artist is constantly after – conveying a message to the individual.
