About

NADYA ANNE MANGION

Nadya Anne Mangion was born in Malta where she lives and works. She started drawing and painting at a very young age, going on to the Malta School of Art, specialising in life drawing anatomical studies. She drew on her background knowledge and experience in biology and anatomy from her foundation years at university while reading for a Bachelor degree in physics and chemistry. She has been practicing ceramics for eighteen years. Using the Western raku firing technique, she transforms clay into artefacts that can be quite organic in form, finished with varied glazes and surface effects. Figurative work is smoke fired and polished with beeswax to give a natural sheen to the texture of skin. This technique combines the four elements earth, fire, air and water perfectly; bringing together her scientific background and artistic instinct. Observation together with memory and imagination fuse to explore her artistic creativity. She has exhibited locally as well as abroad since 2011. ‘Singularity’ was her first solo exhibition held in 2019. Another solo is being finalised for June 2023. Her work has found its place with local as well as foreign collectors.
