MEMORY FOAM

MARTINA DARMANIN

Medium: Clay

Size: 31x36x30cm

Year: 2023

Artwork Description: The artwork is a playful look at sleep and the dreamlike state which we all incur. “Memory foam” is a clay sculpture that visualises the surrealist state of sleep, where our memories often trigger dreams. These dreams can be a comforting simulation as sleeping without dreams can be the closest one can get to the experience of death. Therefore this sculpture visualises ‘the death of each day’s life’, sleep.

About

MARTINA DARMANIN

Martina Darmanin is an artist who graduated with a B.A. (Hons) History of Art with Fine Arts. For her, the arts have always been a tool to visually explore philosophical themes, to try and understand the human condition. Ultimately, her art always roots from this urge to understand herself and certain trivial actions we all do, that can be easily overlooked. Her previous exhibitions have always centred around such themes but explored through different artistic mediums such as sculpture, video installation, painting etc. She is now exploring the digital world of the arts, while currently undertaking a Masters in Fine Arts with Digital Art, to help her artistic language and practice.
