About

PATRICK GALEA

Patrick Galea was a student of Antoine Camilleri and Esprit Barthet in the Lyceum and Polytechnic days (1976-1972). Later continued his studies in Architecture and Design at the Jacob Kramer College Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University (1973- 77), which exposed him to different perspectives. The tutorship of British artist and educator Frank Lisle markedly contributed to the perception of form, volume, light, and colour. One can safely surmise that having Lisle’s mentorship, as a common denominator, explains his great admiration for David Hockney’s work. Galea’s landscapes aim to exude an endemic and radiating warmth that seems to emanate from deep within the geology and topography of the Maltese islands. The lack of actual human presence accentuates the purity of the Maltese and Gozitan landscape, which is complemented by the untainted celestial blue of the Mediterranean sky.
