Noel Azzopardi was born at Msida on 7th April 1962 to Elia and Mary née Sant. Noel’s drawing ability with attention to detail was first recognized at a very early age. He initially studied art at the Ħamrun Junior Lyceum under the tuition of George Apap where he successfully obtained the highest mark for an Advanced Level Certificate in Art. At the age of fourteen, he was encouraged by Antoine Camilleri to continue his studies at the School of Art under Harry Alden and Esprit Barthet, where he completed a full three-year course in drawing and painting. At the age of sixteen, he started working at Ceramika Maltija Ltd, but it was not long after that he joined a German company where he was responsible in various sectors including the decoration department. In the meantime, he could not hide his endless passion for art and continued to build up his talent by experimenting in various media, especially in oil. He always was encouraged by his wife to continue his studies in Art, so in 2007 he took up again a three-year Diploma Course in Painting at the School of Art in Valletta to refresh his skills under the supervision of Headmaster Joseph Micallef and his Art Master Antoine Sciberras. He was awarded first place and obtained a Distinction. Soon after he was assigned to teach Art as an Adult Educator at the Malta School of Art in Valletta and is still doing so today.
