About

MARIO SAMMUT

Mario Sammut, born in 1955, is a ceramist and sculptor. He took lessons in art with Malta’s renowned artists, Antoine Camilleri and Esprit Barthet. He further took ceramic lessons under the guidance of Gabriel Caruana. He uses various mediums to express his particular style of art which include ceramics, bronze, aluminium, and marble. His sculptural forms depict a stylised human figure where single and multiple figures interact with each other, with emphasis on social interaction and relationships, exploring the human figure through such emotions and situations portrayed in minimal detail yet in monumental form. Having put up three solo exhibitions in Malta, participated in ceramics exhibitions in Malta, Cyprus, Frankfurt, Sicily, Denmark, and New York. His ceramic sculptures can be found in public and private collections in Malta and in various countries. Following a public call for submissions, three of his sculptures were chosen as public art in Malta and Gozo. These were executed in full-scale sculptures by the artist himself.
