About

JUSTIN FALZON

Justin Falzon is a Gozitan artist who works in painting and printmaking. Falzon started his artistic journey at the School of Art in Valletta, Malta, and furthered his studies at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy. His work spans collective exhibitions featuring both painting and printmaking, along with three solo exhibitions: Paintings & Etchings at Studio 104 Fine Art Space, Valletta (2014), Skullscapes at Banca Giuratale, Gozo (2013), and Justetchings at Art..e Gallery, Gozo (2011). Falzon’s artistic purpose is deeply rooted in the profound connection between the actual and the transient. His journey as an artist took an unexpected turn when he bore witness to the exhumation of his late father’s remains, a poignant event that irrevocably altered the trajectory of his practice. Traditionally drawn to the human figure, Falzon’s initial artistic inspiration emanated from the rich nuances embedded within human form. The experience of standing beside his father’s resting place after eleven years of slumber, however, shifted the focal point of his work towards the aesthetic resonances of bodies in transition. Falzon’s current work specifically draws on the liminal zone where life meets with the inevitable embrace of decomposition, to create a visual narrative that speaks of the interconnectedness of life and death, as well as the fragility and resilience of bodies in flux.
