About

JOSEPH AGIUS

Joseph Agius (b. 1967) has established himself as one of Malta’s foremost ceramic artists. He tends to favour a social neo-realist aesthetic, which is partly inspired by his experiences as a nurse, by his exposure to pain, disease, despair, and death. He also engages with global news and chooses linguistic metaphors and figures of speech as springboards for his creations. The titles of his works often have a metaphorical origin which Agius interprets as a narrative in clay. He has participated in several collective exhibitions in Malta.
