Artwork Description: Jo Dounis is a contemporary acrylic and mixed-media artist who expresses her passion for light, texture, and colour through two very distinctive styles. One is fluid with an almost ethereal quality where colours blend and flow together to create abstract works with organic shapes and designs, and the other is textural, creating a 3-dimensional tactile experience for the viewer through her atmospheric land, sea, and skyscapes. Dounis’s art can be found in private collections in Malta, the USA, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, and several countries in Europe.

About

JO DOUNIS

An abstract work depicting a beautiful and tender core protected by a rougher exterior which is present, but in the background. Before vulnerability is exposed, whether in the plant, animal, or human world, a certain level of protection from external forces needs to be felt, in order to imbue a sense of security. This piece attempts to convey that the feelings and emotions relating to a sense of safety, allow that vulnerability to be revealed, tentatively at first, and then more boldly as that sense of security deepens.
