Artwork Description: Scarlet is the first sculpture that Darren ever exhibited. It depicts a veiled young female head showing intense emotions of sadness. The sculpture is painted in vibrant scarlet red, a colour that is not usually associated with such emotions, on the contrary it is a colour used in celebrations and joyful events. The beauty lies in the paradox that this sculpture holds within it – a painful emotion expressed through a beautiful vibrant red face.
